Two pet accessory quotes can look very different even when the product photos appear similar. Start with a quote-ready product specification
A factory cannot price an idea accurately without knowing what will be produced. Begin with the product type, intended customer, target sizes, materials, colors, logo, quantity, packaging, destination, and required delivery date. Reference photos are useful, but mark which details must match and which can be adjusted to meet the target budget.

Material choice affects more than appearance
Polyester webbing, nylon, cotton blends, hemp-facing tapes, neoprene, mesh, printed fabric, silicone, and PVC-coated materials have different costs and production requirements. Thickness, width, weave, backing, color, printing, and minimum purchase quantities also matter. A custom-dyed material may require a higher minimum than a stocked black or standard color.
Ask the quote to identify the material construction rather than using a broad label such as "premium fabric." If the product has several layers, record each layer separately so later samples and reorders use the same specification.
Size ranges change consumption and assembly time
A large collar or harness uses more material than an extra-small size. It may also require wider webbing, larger hardware, stronger reinforcement, and a larger package. A blended price across all sizes depends on the size ratio. Pricing 1,000 units with an unknown size mix can therefore be misleading.
Provide quantity by size whenever possible. If the final ratio is not known, ask for a size-based price table or agree on an assumed ratio that can be updated before the order is confirmed.
Hardware can move the price quickly

Compare available attachments and hardware before requesting the final quote. A small hardware change can influence both unit price and sample timing.
Logo method should match the material and order size
Screen printing, heat transfer, sublimation, embroidery, woven labels, rubber patches, laser engraving, epoxy logos, and metal plates each use a different production process. Cost depends on logo size, number of colors, placement, artwork detail, and quantity. A repeated all-over print is priced differently from one small woven label.
Send vector artwork and specify the intended logo dimensions. If several logo methods could work, ask the supplier to quote two suitable options and explain the visual and minimum-order tradeoffs.
Quantity and color splits determine efficiency
A quote for 1,000 identical collars is not equivalent to 1,000 collars divided across five patterns, four sizes, and two hardware finishes. Every variation can require material separation, print setup, production handling, labels, packing, and inspection. The total quantity may look high while each individual SKU remains small.
List quantities by style, color, size, and logo version. This gives the factory a realistic production matrix and helps the buyer see where consolidating options may reduce cost.
Packaging belongs in the first quote
Bulk poly bags, hang tags, belly bands, printed cards, retail boxes, barcode labels, care cards, inserts, and carton requirements all add material and labor. Packaging can also change shipping volume. A retail-ready quote should include the full presentation rather than adding packaging after the product price has been approved.
Provide barcode format, required warnings, language, country-of-origin information, and carton labeling at the beginning. If packaging artwork is not ready, describe the format and request a provisional allowance.
Sampling, testing, and inspection should be visible
Clarify whether sample fees, logo setup, tooling, custom color development, testing, and pre-shipment inspection are included or separate. A low unit price can become less attractive when essential development costs appear later. For repeat programs, ask which setup costs are one-time and which apply to every order.
Shipping terms change the number you compare
EXW, FOB, CIF, DDP, courier, air freight, and sea freight represent different responsibilities and cost boundaries. Compare quotes using the same trade term, destination, delivery method, and estimated carton volume. Duties and taxes may or may not be included.
